Now, it really feels like summer. For me, the 4th is the real start, not Memorial Day.

We’re not doing anything special for the day, but we’ll drop my son, Handsome, off at camp on Sunday. He’s going to a Toy Engineering Camp, can you imagine? When I went to summer camp with the Marymount Sisters in Vermont, the most exciting activity was the bonfire. Gosh, times have changed.

Last week we had our big annual summer bash which brings together all the friends we don’t get to see during the year. It’s tremendous fun and something thought-provoking always comes out of those late-night, Heineken fueled discussions.

We got around to talking about relationships (naturally) and the Sex in the City movie came up. I don’t mind saying it was a disappointment to me. The conclusion was too neat, and for two characters, Samantha and Miranda, too much out of character. What really puzzled me was the advice the therapist gave to Steve and Miranda: forgive and forget. Baloney! (more…)

It’s been a wild couple of days. My daughter graduated from high school last week so I’ve been up to my ears in preparations for her as well as hosting my Mom. Naturally, all that extra stress made me a bit sharp with my swubby. We actually had two fights in front of her. The first time I visited my swubby’s family vacation house in Vermont it was quite an experience. Not because I fell out of an apple tree and almost broke my ankle. (I couldn’t resist climbing to the top to get the big ones). Or, because it was a full family press- his 5 siblings and their families were all in attendance for the annual cider pressing. Although I admit that I was overwhelmed by all the activity, noise and general chaos. No, what really amazed me was hearing my brother-in-law,, Stan, snore. (more…)
